Phonics Readers

K12 had a large library of phonics readers that they wanted to make interactive. I created some tools using ActionScript and JSFL (JavaScript Flash) to read in the story files, separate the words of the story and find the necessary audio files. The scripts would also break the words apart into pre-determined phonemes for sounding out the words and then reassemble the words into interactive sentences. This saved considerable time over hand coding and animating each word and sentence. Many artists illustrated stories for the readers. The one below is one of the ones I illustrated.

The student can click on the button by the sentence on the page and the sentence is read to you, each word highlighting as it is read. The student can also click on each word and it is sounded out, individual letters highlighting as the phonemes are played.
